About You, My Son

I was living with your father,
Nineteen at the time.
Money wasn't the best,
We were scratching to get a dime.
But we made it though together,
We were the "reason and rhyme"

We thought our life was perfect,
Living side by side together...
But then there came the day,
That it would become even better.
You were there with us,
When I was told I'd be a mother.

Your daddy held my hand,
As the doctor stood to say,
"Congratulations, you're a mother to be..."
I will never forget that day!
Your daddy looked at me again,
And there was nothing we could say.

The months began to pass,
And i felt you growing inside.
What would be your name?
We just couldn't decide.
There were times at night, i was so happy,
I had just laid there and cried.

I felt your little body growing,
And those tiny feet kicking at night.
And you would fuss when mommy was hungry,
Sometimes it was like a fight.
The days kept passing,
And your birthday was finally in sight.

Your daddy was there,
The whole way though.
Holding my hand and telling me,
How much he loved me and you.
He held me closer every second,
As the doctor said what to do.

Then I heard your voice,
And you took a gasp of air.
They let me hold you in my arms,
You were so small and fair.
With those eyes, and smile,
And a little bit of hair..

On your first birthday,
You had cake all over the place!
In you hair, on the floor,
And all over your face!
As always, your stole our hearts,
My son, that memory is one,
That we will never erase.

As you grew older,
You stole our hearts away.
Your daddy and i were so proud!
And more so each day.
You're going to make it so far,
You're going to make your own way.

This story isn't over yet,
For it has only just begun.
You can write the ending,
However you please, my son....
Just be sure to include Mommy and Daddy...
And the love that you have won.......

(note: no i do not have a son, it was simply the beauty and possibility in which i see in bringing a new life to the earth.)

Why?  Why not...
